Book Haul! 28th April

Now that I'm back up and running with a few posts after a busy few weeks, I thought it was about time I did a bit of a book haul! My to-read list is totally out of control and but I still haven't been able to resist the odd treat. Below are some of the books I've picked up recently!

Independent Study by Joelle Charbonneau

I got this book out from the library a while ago and hadn't got round to reading it, but when I did finally pick it up I was delighted to find a quote from my review of The Testing appeared on the first page! My mum was so proud she surprised me by buying me my very own copy of the book so I had it to keep. I've finished the book now and thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep your eyes peeled for a review soon!

A Kiss in the Dark by Cat Clarke
Goose by Dawn O'Porter

My local Waterstones recently moved location and opened a brand new shiny shop, so of course when I popped in to check it out I had to buy something! I went in specifically looking for Goose, the sequel to Paper Aeroplanes (which was one of my favourite books of last year!), and because it was on buy one get one half price then I just had to have something else. I picked Cat Clarke's new book, A Kiss in the Dark, because I've been dying to read it since I first found out it was being published.

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

I've been wanting to read this book for so long and have picked it up longingly at the library many times before returning it to the shelves. It's a long book so I've always been put off, worrying I wouldn't have time to read it! So when it appeared on Kindle Daily Deal I snatched it up. Hopefully I'll find time to read it soon!

Class A by Robert Muchamore

I'd just finished The Recruit when I spotted this book, the sequel, in a charity shop. It was a sign! I enjoyed the first book so I'm looking forward to getting stuck in.

What I've Been Reading

I'm currently reading Echo Boy by Matt Haig, which is a YA sci-fi novel. I finished the incredible Trouble by Non Pratt this week which was one of my favourite books of the year so far!

Book Haul

So I'm a bit overdue on this post which means there's even more books to talk about - yay! I've been going a bit crazy - oops. But I got some great bargains so that's okay.

I got Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo for 99p on Kindle this week. I've been meaning to read it for ages so I couldn't resist!

My charity shop bargain of the week was Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson, and I bought The Boy in the Smoke by Maureen Johnson which is one of this year's World Book Day books.

Recently I stopped by The Works where I picked up Deception by C. J. Redwine, Infinite Sky by C. J. Flood and Emma Hearts L.A by Keris Stainton on their 3 for £5 offer.

I also used a WHSmith gift card to buy Trouble by Non Pratt.

From the library I picked up The Name on Your Wrist by Helen Hiorns which I saw featured in this blog post over on Fluttering Butterflies a while ago and Independent Study by Joelle Charbonneau - sequel to The Testing which I adored!

And I also downloaded The Recruit by Robert Muchamore from NetGalley as The Cherub series is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year with a cover relaunch, and as I'm yet to read the series I thought this was a great opporunity! Thanks Hachette Children's for the review copy.

Belated Book Round Up! 25th February

So my life has been a little crazy of late. I'm working irregular hours which means I'm not really sure when and where I'll be working, so any kind of blogging schedule has gone out of the window! But I've acquired a few exciting books lately I wanted to talk about, so here's a book round up to get caught up on everything.

Book Haul

I'll start with a book haul this week! I've had a few exciting books to review come my way recently that I wanted to talk about. A few weeks ago I was approved for Take Back the Skies by Lucy Saxon. I love YA sci-fi so I'm really excited to read this. Thanks Bloomsbury!

If you've followed the blog for a while then you'll know I'm a big fan of Amy Martin's In Your Dreams series. Book three - Before You Sleep-  has just landed on my Kindle and I couldn't be more excited! Thanks Amy. And another exciting sequel came my way in the shape of Unwoven by Jack Croxall, the sequel to Tethers - a book I really enjoyed. Thanks Jack.

What I've Been Reading

I'm currently reading Panic by Lauren Oliver which comes out in March. She's one of my favourite YA authors and I'm thoroughly enjoying this one. My review will be up in a few weeks! I also finished Paranormalcy by Kiersten White which was really good.

In the News

The cover for Take Me On by Katie McGarry has been unveiled over on Facebook. See it below. This is the US cover so I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for the UK version soon.

Cassandra Clare has opened up about her latest Shadowhunter series. The Last Hours will be a trilogy set between the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Read more over on FangirllDaily.

J. K. Rowling has announced the title and release date of the sequel to her detective novel The Cuckoo's Calling. The Silkworm will be published in June. Read more over on Hypable.

Phew! I think I'm caught up. Plus I'm including this Vlogbrothers video which is Hank Green ranting about books because a) it made me laugh, a lot, and b) it is completely accurate.

The Weekly Book Round Up! 11th January

So this week has been rather eventful for me because I started my very first job! I've been doing volunteer work for a while now and I've been able to get a job working for a charity I've been volunteering for. I absolutely adore volunteering and so working for a charity is something I'm so happy and fortunate to be doing. This is such a huge step for me as I've had health problems which have prevented me from working. Obviously it's going to take some time to adjust to a new routine and I'm in such a good place that I'm just relaxing, enjoying it and letting myself settle in. I'm sorry if the blog is quiet for a while, but it's for good reasons! And I have some great posts lined up for the rest of January.

So onto the round up!

In the news

A new still from The Fault in Our Stars film adaptation has been released. See the image of Hazel and Gus over on FangirlDaily.

The cover for City of Heavenly Fire, the final installment in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series, will be revealed on January 14th on The Insider, which airs at 7pm EST on 14th January. Read the announcement over on Cassandra Clare's Tumblr.

And the category winners for the Costa Book Award have been revealed, with the Costa Children's Book Award going to Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse by Chris Riddell. Read more in the official press release.

Book haul

I've been wanting to read Paranormalcy by Kiersten White for ages, and I popped into the main library last weekend and there it was staring me in the face! I also managed to pick up Sister Assassin by the same author which I've started already.

I also bought a couple of books this week because I can't resist a charity shop bargain! I picked up Hunger by Michael Grant in the hope it will encourage me to read Gone. I also picked up Department 19: The Rising by Will Hill because I loved the first book! Not YA, but I got Silver Linings Playbook as well after I received the film on DVD for Christmas and loved it.

What I've Been Reading

I'm juggling so many books at the moment! I'm focusing on The Scar Boys by Len Vlahos which is a review book I needed to read, and it's really good so far. I'm also reading Sister Assassin which I picked up from the library.

The Christmas and New Year Book Round Up!

Hello everyone! So the blog is back up and running after a bit of a break over the festive period. I like taking a break from blogging at this time of year so I can relax, spend time with family and of course catch up on some reading! I'm also excited to share some of the new books I've got my hands on, both as presents and as treats to myself in the sales. So let's get caught up!

Books I've Received

For Christmas I got two books, pictured below.

Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle - I've already finished this and it was fantastic! It's three interlinked short stories set around Christmas and it was the perfect Christmas Day reading.

Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson - I've heard amazing things about this book from other bloggers and the girls at Epic Reads' Tea Time so I was super happy when I unwrapped this!

Books I Bought

I may have treated myself to a few books in the sales! There were some Kindle books cheap so I bought The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson and How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr because they're both books I've been wanting to read for ages and couldn't resist for 99!

I also treated myself to the hardback of Teardrop by Lauren Kate which was half price in Waterstones. I've already finished it because I couldn't put it down! Hopefully I'll have my review up soon.

Films I Received

I also got some YA book adaptations on DVD for Christmas, including Beautiful Creatures which I hadn't seen before. I absolutely loved the film, even more than the book! I also got The Hunger Games on DVD which I didn't previously own but had seen before.

On the Blog

So the posts were back up and running this week and I started out with my Books of the Year post, in which I rounded up all my books of the month from 2013. Then I reviewed The Almost Girl by Amalie Howard which wasn't quite for me in the end. I moved on to Red by Alison Cherry which was a book I loved, and I also had Alison on the blog this week talking about the research she did for Red which was exciting! Huge thank you to Alison for her wonderful guest post. Then I finished up the week with my review of the fantastic Pawn by Aimee Carter.

What books did you receive for Christmas? And what books have you been reading over the holidays? I always love hearing from you so feel free to leave a comment! Happy New Year!

The Weekly Book Round Up! 21st December

Welcome to my latest Weekly Book Round Up! Depending on how busy I am, this may be my last one of the year. I'm hoping I'll squeeze another one in next week to catch you up on my holiday reading, but as it's a time where I tend to stay away from my laptop and spend time with family, I'm not going to worry myself too much about blogging for the next week or so. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, and here's what's been happening on the blog and in this news this week!

In the News

The film adaptation of John Green's The Fault in Our Stars now has a poster! You can see the poster which features Hazel and Gus below.

Some concern has been raised over the tagline but John Green addressed the issue on his Tumblr page.

What I've Been Reading

Like I said, it's been a pretty quiet week reading wise! I've turned my attention to Champion by Marie Lu which is really good so far, and I'm hoping to settle down with it over the weekend. Then once I've finished that I can hopefully return to Throne of Glass and start on some January review titles. Phew! I also picked up a copy of  Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult - one of the few of hers I haven't read - in a charity shop.

I'm finally embracing the spirit of Christmas with a few festive touches to the blog! I've started writing my cards, now to actually start my Christmas shopping... This week has been a bit crazy for me real world wise so I've barely had time to read, but. I had my first driving lesson which was scary and exciting! Anyway, here is a round up of some of the news stories popping up on my radar this week, as well as a catch up of what's been happening on the blog. Enjoy!

What I've Been Reading

I finished reading Pawn by Aimee Carter on Sunday which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's such a clever book! My review will be posted late Decemeber/early January.

I finally started Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I'd picked it up a month or so ago and liked what I'd read, but just hadn't had the time to commit to reading it. Now I have a bit of time I'm diving in! I'm still not far but my gosh, it's so good! The main character, Celaena, is incredible.

I also did some sneaky book buying this week when I caught a few Kindle bargains. After Eden by Helen Douglas was a book I wanted to read after seeing Daisy's review, and I also grabbed Stealing Phoenix by Joss Sterling because I really enjoyed Finding Sky when I read it earlier this year.

On Thursday I reviewed the third book in the Gallagher Girls series, Don't Judge a Girl by her Cover. It wasn't my favourite of the series but I'm still really liking these books. I have the next one out from the library ready to read soon.

Friday saw another post in my Sarah's Reading Habits feature in which I shared where I get my books from.

And on Saturday I took part in the Book Blitz for Deadly to Promise by Mia Hoddell here on the blog, and shared my review of Eve & Adam over on Fandomsnews.com.

What I'm Reading

I'm currently reading Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan, although I'm hoping to have finished it once this post goes live! I've had to put aside Pawn by Aimee Carter whilst I rush read some library books that are due back, but I'm thoroughly enjoying what I've read of it so far and can't wait to get back to it, along with Wither by Lauren DeStefano which is also on the back burner. The only book I've finished this week is Eve & Adam by Michael Grant and Katherine Applegate which I reviewed for Fandomsnews.com.

I did some cheeky book shopping this week when I visited a charity shop. I bought two books I've been wanting to read for absolutely ages. Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging is the first in the Georgia Nicholson series by Lousie Rennison which I have yet to read and I feel like it's a gaping hole in my YA reading. I also bought Prom Nights From Hell which is a collection of short stories by YA authors. I want to read more short stories and the list of names drew me in.

I also collected Champion by Marie Lu from the library! I'm SO excited to read this one as this trilogy has been one of my absolute favourites.

On the Blog

On Sunday my review of Allegiant went up on both my blog and Mr Ripley's Enchanted Books. To see my thoughts on the final book in the Divergent trilogy be sure to head over there and check the review out! I finally posted my review of Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein. I adored it just as much as Code Name Verity! I also reviewed Tregarthur's Promise by Alex Mellanby which was a novel that didn't quite come together for me. On Wednesday I reviewed Soulmates by Holly Bourne which is one of my new favourite books. Go grab it now! I also posted a book playlist to accompany the review.

Friday saw my latest Sarah's Reading Habits post which focused on my excuses for buying books. We all have them! I'm having great fun writing these posts so I'm hoping to make it a more regular feature.

What I've Been Reading

I started the week by finishing Secret Lies by Amy Dunne. This was a title I received for review and I was super excited to read it because it's LBGQT and I am trying to hunt out more titles that feature same sex relationships. My review should be up in December so keep an eye out!

I finished Every Day by David Levithan which was SO GOOD. I'll try and have my review of that up asap because it blew me away.

I also finished One More Day which is an anthology of short stories I received for review. I don't read a lot of anthologies so it was a really refreshing read. It comes out in December so keep an eye out for my review.

I'm still reading Wither by Lauren DeStefano and really enjoying it.

In the real world

So I have a NaNoWriMo confession... I was really struggling so I decided to start a new novel. I'm kind of using the word counts to both (sssshh!) but I'm so behind now I probably won't catch up even with that. I've just had a busy time recently and I've had to put writing on the backburner. Hopefully I'll have a free day coming up where I can squeeze some words in.

In the post this week I received some awesome pin badges from Quercus as a thank you for my review of The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. How cool are they?! Thanks Quercus! Here's me wearing mine with pride.
