Plot Summary (from Goodreads): Sixteen-year-old Mallory
loves her boyfriend, Jeremy. Or at least likes him more than she's ever
liked any other boy. She's sure he feels the same way. Until she
happens upon his online Authentic Life game and discovers he's cheating
on her ...online Mallory's life is falling apart and technology is the
cause. And then she finds a list, written by her grandma when she was
Mallory's age. All her grandma had to worry about was sewing dresses and
planning dinner parties. Things were so much simpler in the 1960s. And
there's nothing on the list that Mallory couldn't do herself. Maybe it's
time for Mallory to go vintage and find the answers to her modern-day
problems.
So I've decided to do something a bit different for this review. I'm taking inspiration from Mallory and doing it vintage style, with lists! (If you can't see the images below, scroll down for the text version - which is slightly less vintage.)
My review:
Things I loved about Going Vintage
1. The teenage awkwardness! Mallory and Jeremy's relationship is based 90% on kissing. I could relate to Mallory's insecurities and how she felt when she finds out about Jeremy. My teenage years were dogged by MySpace drama which seemed like such a HUGE deal at the time.
2. I love that Mallory makes lists! And each chapter starts with a cute little list a bit like this one.
3. Ginnie! Mallory's younger sister was one of my favourite characters. She's so funny and smart. Plus the sisterly relationship between Mallory and Ginnie was perfect! I love that they can confide in each other and that they're so close. It reminds me of the relationship with my own sister.
4. OLIVER! So Jeremy is a complete tool but thankfully there is hope for Mallory in the form of Jeremy's cousin. HE IS SO ADORABLE and stands up for Mallory and respects her crazy ideas.
5. The vintage-ness! So it's in the title and it was part of the appeal in me wanting to read the book. I love Mallory's style and the inspiration she takes from her grandma.
6. The sub-plots. As well as Mallory's story there are some great plotlines with her parents and her grandma. Each of these provided secrets, twists and turns that kept me hooked.
Overall, Going Vintage was a cute fun read that took me right back to my teenage years.

What a fun review! How very cute to write out your own lists as a review. Very fitting with the story and it feels refreshing to see a different type of review! :)
Thank you! <3 it was so fun to do something different :D I'll have to try and think outside the box more often, but this just felt like the only way to write it! Thanks so much for the lovely comment Clover :) :)
*squee* This sounds incredibly cute and what an awesomely quirky way to do a review! I'm totally into the vintage thing (as you can probably guess from my blog) so definitely adding this to my TBR pile, utterly up my street. Off to find more vintagette books now :) Zoë from zoesbookblog.com
Thank you! It was so cute, especially the romance side <3 I really hope you enjoy it when you get round to it! And if you find any more vintage books you'll have to let me know :D thanks so much for the lovely comment!
